December 2024: ÚLTIMO

Another one bites the dust.

We made it through the “Seasons of Gratitude” and the “Seasons of Joy”, which wrap up with the “Season of Renewal”. That’s the frame of mind I walked into 2024 with, carried over from 2023 and forward into 2025. The beginning of a new year is a time to restart, refocus, recalibrate. The end of a year is a time to reflect.

  • On the people we lost this year and the people we didn’t walk into this year with. We will never stop loving and missing you.

  • On the people we welcomed into our lives, new babies or new friends or new lovers. Your presence is a gift.

  • On our accomplishments and on the things that we still need to work on. Let’s not measure a year by what we get done but what we’ve learned and how we’ve grown.

  •  On our best memories of the year and a few of those cringeworthy moments. Lean on the laughs and smiles. Remember the joy.

  • We can do better.

  • We can love more.

  • Love is all we have, and I hope you have someone to share that with. A friend or partner. Mom. Dad. Family. Pets. If you do, you are blessed.

Best Of…

We had another great year of family memories. Palm Springs. Disneyland. A wedding in Arizona. A visit from Grammy D. Fifth grade promotion. A solo cello performance. Countless days and nights laughing and being silly, going to the park, skateboarding, playing with remote control cars, family dinners at the local sushi spot. So many things, and it’s the little things we do that I love the most. With all that, the highlight of 2024 was the Los Angeles Dodgers winning the World Series. This was a huge personal moment for me as a lifelong Dodgers fan, but it was a journey that we experienced as a family. It all started with Fan Fest in February, and it culminated with an intense run through the playoffs. As a family, we attended games at the Ravine, and we watched games on TV. Watching the Dodgers progress through the playoffs together, losing our minds when Freddie said “fuck you” to the Yankees hopes and dreams in Game 1, cheering together when it was all said and done, that was the highlight of 2024 and one of the best memories of my life.

Resolution 2025

I’m going to stop measuring “progress” with my personal work. I’m shifting my focus away from “how much did I produce” to “what did I produce”, meaning that I’m going to scale back on writing articles in 2025 to focus on finishing a couple of books. Beyond that, I just want to get better at being calm in every facet of life, but especially when I drive. I can’t help these idiots out on the road, but I can help how I feel about it.

Happy New Year!

Saturday Night Special

I started making 5-minute videos on YouTube back in August. It ain’t much, but it’s an honest few minutes of “work”. Here’s the latest video.
