Nada grumpkin.
Well, I just heard the news today.
There’s nothing quite like the downshift from summer to fall. The warm weather is great, but summers these days aren’t warm anymore if you live between. Summers are hot. In some parts of the world, they heat and humidity are oppressive for months. Then, the seasons change, the cooler fall weather arrives, and we receive it like Scott Stapp in the early 00s.
The fall also ushers in the holiday season. There are several at play during these next couple of months, which means there’s one for everyone. Pick one and go all out celebrating (in a positive and safe way). Make some (positive and safe) memories.
Something Wicked Was Brewing
The Dodgers got swept in the NLCS by the Milwaukie Brewers, who went on to win the World Series. Awesome. For real through, congratulations to the Brewers. I do enjoy seeing long suffering fan bases finally win, and we’ve got to see two of them in 2026 do just that. Shoutout to the New York Knicks. Maybe this is the Detroit Lions year.
One thing about the Brewers winning that bothers me is the rhetoric that they “won the right way”. I assume this is a shot at the Dodgers because in many people’s eyes they just buy world championships. If the so called right way takes fifty-seven years to pull off, is it in fact the right way? Is this the same right way that got the Brewers swept out of the playoffs last year by you know who? I get the hate. The Dodgers have been competitive for the past fifteen years and have had a recent stretch of world championship success. When you’re good and you represent a city that people already don’t like, people will poo poo your wins and dance on the grave of your losses.
There’s a misunderstanding of how the Dodgers have become a year-in/year-out contender. It’s not just the money. That is one resource at their disposal, and they have a lot of it. They also have great scouting and player development. They have turned several of those players into CY Young award winners and All-Stars and MVPs. They have flipped some of that young talent for proven players. They have turned DFAs into reclamation projects. They have used a lot of different resources at their disposal, and they’ve been good at it. This season, on their quest for a third World Series title in a row, they met their match. Once again, congratulations Milwaukie Brewers.
Events
October was filled with personal and professional events. That’s unusual. I’m the type to whine about having to be so busy. Whine about having to attend a baby shower or a wedding or birthday parties, and I always end up having a good time. Some things never change.
My favorite event of the month was impromptu and greatly tested my desire to stay home and do nothing. A friend called me on October 24, at around 5pm. I was pretty much in chill mode. I was up early with my wife to do some volunteer work with a neighborhood association. I took a friend out to lunch for his birthday. I had an afternoon nap. I was in sweatpants. It was time to lay low, but my friend had two additional free tickets to the JAŸ-Z concert at So-Fi in Inglewood (Los Angeles for you out-of-towners). My wife and I had an hour to get ready if we wanted to go. A voice in my head told me to turn down the offer because I wouldn’t be ready, but another voice told me to say yes and rally my wife because this opportunity is rare. That was a great decision on my part.
I have more to say about the show in SNS 120. Happy Halloween!
Just vlog, baby!
