Far from professional design.

Roasting Quail, Sweaty Nuts

I’m trying something new this month with the blog; I’m recording it instead of writing it because—and this is some lame ass shit—I want to redirect some brainpower toward other writing projects right now. Let me break it down for you in two parts.

First part: This isn’t my day job, hence the website is called Writer By Night. It’s a double-entendre and an inside joke, but it is my reality. I do something other than write professionally (hence the name of my other website, FarFromProfessional.com). That job requires a lot of me, mostly in the form of interpersonal engagement, and that shit is exhausting. That’s one part of the reason why I am making a shift in the medium through which I choose to dispense this underperforming blog.

Second part: I love to write. I do it daily in some capacity, just like some of you. You get it. Part of my daily, post-work writing routine is to work on something for one of those website. I’ll also include some fiction writing—a combo of short stories and this bullshit fantasy novel that has now become part of my path of self-actualization. I can be a bit psychotic about this writing hobby, though. I mean it can affect my mood, throw me off my game, if I don’t do it. It’s this stupid game I play in my head about making “progress” versus letting time slip by. That’s not a healthy approach to a so-called hobby.

I also edit articles from the other contributors to FFP. God bless them.

Can you see where I’m going with this? Lots of energy dispensed on a bunch of projects that aren’t making me any money.

“Well, Nick, I’d say you’re an idiot.”

You wouldn’t be far off with that assessment.

Anyway, my point is that I’m recording these talking points to give myself a chance to finish shit that I think is more important than writing this blog. Ironically, I recognize that I can just stop writing a blog that no one reads, but I like to keep my sword sharp.

“Your sword is extra rusty, my dude.”

Fuck off, inner voice.

On this inaugural audioblog, I’ll share my thoughts on the summertime, which gets me back on another climate change rant (I apoligze), before I close it out with a little monologue about football, the American kind.

Thanks for putting up with the lame sound quality and lack of post-production. I know it was rough.
